Learning BJJ
Yep it seems I'm moving for this to that but now I am studying Braziliam Jiu-Jitsu and it is pretty fun, but I just started it.  Most likely I will study Competition BJJ because it requires greater smarts that most other styles of JJ.  I'm not saying that Sanucus is bad but I'm not able to execute all of the techniques that I am able to do in BJJ.  Also, the cardo training is funner and more energetic than Sanucus.  I would like to go to the UAE and train in BJJ too.  Last week we learned the basic hip through and the arm bar from the guard. It is pretty cool.  Take a loo

Practicing in the home.

Hello. Today was a good day for practice at my home. I have finally been able to successfully execute all 25 techniques on both sides of my body.   Today was just a practice for about 30 minutes. I did the regular jumping jacks, push up, and sit ups,  and the blocking techniques that Mr. Jamal taught me.  I also practiced my combination boxing techniques.  If allah wills, I will start back at the club after Eid, which is two weeks after the Ramadan holiday. By then I will have paid the half of my debt with my land lord.  Let me tell you, when you are poor, the gym has to waite sometimes. That is life.

It is Ramadan and I am practicing my Ju-Jitsu twice a week.  I practice my techniques on one side one day and the next day I practice both sides.  The kata I haven't practice in a while, but I am pretty sure that I remember it.  Also, I practice the blocking and hitting as taught to me by my teacher.  I am telling you that the two days I spent learning how to block while in a fighting stance, while moving around in a circle and while moving back and forth has improved my fight game tremendously.  Two days has made a difference.   Blocking, grabbing, and locking, and hitting is what this fight game is all about.  My approach to fighting is not just physical but mental now.  Praises due to Allah. Also, when I am practicing my techniques, I remember about 23 or sometimes all of the 25 techniques.

Today was  slow day in training. We worked one particular technique, but we did not work the Jo-Jo-Stick.  Also, I was not all that motivated because I had eaten some food before the ju-jitsu practice.  I hadn't eaten all day, and I needed something to eat.  LIfe is like that some times.  Also, a few of the students were promoted to yellow belt, and that is a good thing.  One thing I need to do more of is endurance training.  I can't make it if I don't. Really, I think that the team needs to do more endurance training, and I know that I need it.  Personally, I think that all of this stretching is a waste of time.  FIfteen minutes is enough. Also, I need to work the punching bag more often. It has been a while since I hit the bag with my punching gloves.

More Jo-jo- stick & 25 Techniques
Today, I learned more about the jo-jo-stick, and I practiced my 25 attack/defense techniques too. The stick is fun to learn, and today I learned how to defend if the stick is being swung at my lower body (legs). In most cases you have to get in before it actually reaches you, and you can lock the arm behind your back, brake the arm and take the opponent down to the ground. Once he is down to the ground, hit him with his own stick if you can. You must let him feel the pain that he wanted you to initially feel. Basically give him a taste of his own medicine. Also, when you take the opponent down, don't stand between his legs because he can tripe you. What you need to do is stand on the outside of his legs.

Also, the class is small now. It only includes four students, and most of the new white belts have left to attend school again. I was hoping that they would stay, but they chose to leave. Maybe next week I will see them.

Jo-Jo-Stick Lessons
Today was an interesting day because I learned how to use the jo-jo-stick to attack an opponent, and I learned how to defend an attack by an opponent with a stick. You can avoid, duck under, or hop over the stick and then you move in to the opponent. When you block the attack, you block it at his wrest, and then get control of his hands, and once the stick is no longer in his hands, you can work various moves from that point. There is one point to note, and that is that when an opponent has a stick, or any other weapon, you keep your eyes on the weapon until it is no longer a threat. Your first goal is to get the weapon out of his hands, and the second goal is to make him submit.

Also, the jo-jo-stick is interesting, and it is a practical weapon, but I also want to learn the knife. That is a good weapon too. Most likely if I get in a fight on the street, I will be able to access my pocket knife better than a stick because I don't carry a stick with me.

Current Mood: accomplished

The Garden: Blocking & Breathing
Thursday, I traveled up to the Garden, and I practiced my blocking and hitting skills with Captain Jamaal. I learned to block and strike with my hands originating from my chest. Also, I was able to block the jab and the cross, which my major opponent Mr. R always delivers when we fight in the ring. In addition, I practiced looking my opponent in the eye, while still being aware of his other body parts. You see one doesn't need to follow every movement of the opponent's hands and feet to know if they are a threat. Furthermore, all hands blocks should strike your opponents wrest, and then quickly bring them back to their starting position, which for me is at the chest level. Moreover, I learned how to block the jab and move in for an arm bar, and throat grab. Once I get that on my opponent, I stand on my toes, turn my body, and take him to the ground.

Staying calm and breathing through my nose is another aspect of fighting I learned. Don't get nervous because he is approaching you fast. Black his hits, kicks and move out of the way. You hit and kick him when you are ready. Also, take every opportunity to strike. A missed opportunity is a missed chance to win. This week I need to practice two more attack techniques for the kickboxing book. I already know that Jab/cross and the jab/cross/hook. Now I want to do one with a kick.
